Steve Bensing - Photo Artist

BIO: I've always been a visual person, so I my passion for photography began at a very young age. Both my father and grandfather enjoyed taking and developing photos. I liked to use my imagination with my photography. I have also enjoyed outdoor activities. I get close to nature by camping and canoeing. Canoe trips provide unique opportunities for photos. I visually interpret my love of nature through my photography. Moreover, my photography includes many other subjects, including people and places. My art is to use the composition of light and form to create images in both color and black & white. Just like an oil painter uses paint, canvas, and brushes as tools to create art, I use a camera and other tools to create art. Conversely, not everyone who uses a brush is an artist, nor is everyone who pushes a button on a camera is an artist. But in a skillful hand, with a keen eye, and a vision in mind, these can be tools of artistic expression. I share my passion with others. I am currently President of the Duneland Photography Club. I see my job as inspiring others to grow in their art as photographers. I am also a member of Lake County Photography Club, the Southern Shore Arts Association, the Chesterton Art Center, and the Illiana Artists. My work has been displayed at juried art shows such as Art Comp at the Chesterton Art Center, the Illiana Artists Regional Juried Exhibition, exhibitions at the Southern Shore Art Association, and the Manito Art Show in Manitowish Waters, WI. I have also won awards at photography contests at the Gardening Show in Porter County and the Porter County Fair. I have coordinated the photography for a book on the history of Camp Jorn in Manitowish Waters, WI, and contributed photography to books by writer Buckshot Anderson and photographer Carol Estes. My work has been published in Lake Superior Magazine and featured in calendars for the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore and Dig the Dunes. Currently I have work on display in Chesterton and Michigan City, Indiana, and at Bayfield, Minoqua, Manitowish Waters, Boulder Junction, and Lake Tomahawk, Wisconsin. ARTIST STATEMENT: Wherever I go, photography is part of me. What I see, I interpret with my photography. Then I share my vision with the world. CONTACT INFO: sbensing@juno.com 219-628-2999 |
